bacoli baia e monte di procida piscina mirabilis, cento camerelle and sepolcro di agrippina
type: archaeological/historic
interest:

In Bacoli it is possible to visit some of the most interesting archaeological places of Campi Flegrei. Piscina Mirabilis, wonderful structure of hydraulic engineering, is a big tank dug in the “tufo” stone; it collected the water coming from Serino River to supply water to be used by naval fleet in Miseno. Today, the external light filtered by the shrubs, creates a suggestive coloured environment. Close to Piscina Mirabilis there is another big tank, Cento Camerelle, named after the dark and narrow tunnels that are there. There are two ambient, one above the other; they probably were parts of a noble villa. On the little beach of Bacoli there are the ruins of a theatre-nymphaeum belonging to a villa that is now under sea level. During the centuries it has been wrongly called Sepolcro di Agrippina, Nerone’s mother who was killed close to that area by her son.
