bacoli baia e monte di procidamiseno type:archaeological/landscape interest:
Miseno was the herald of Enea, drowned close to the promontory that was then named after him. History experts prefer to consider the origin of the name coming from Militum Sinus, military bay where the Roman naval fleet was located, or Micenei, that arrived from Creta to the Campania coast.
The double natural basin was an ideal place for the naval fleet. Maremorto, that was an arsenal, and the external inlet, that was the real port, create Miseno. One of the most interesting remains found in Miseno is the Sacello of Augustali, destroyed after a landslide and then re-built in Archaeological Museum of Campi Flegrei. It is strongly suggested a visit to Cape Miseno lighthouse because of the wonderful landscape. You can reach the lighthouse following the long way that is close to Miliscola beach; it was a military school during Roman period, nowadays it is a crowded leisure summer place.
