The lake Lucrino, so called after the profits made by breeding mussels, is a beautiful mirror of water which runs between the lake Averno and the sea, not that far from punta Epitaffio. On the internal side, along the slopes of Tritoli hill are placed the fumes of Nerone, close to the place where the Roman emperor wanted to have built a pool to gather the thermal water of the entire area.
In these days the structure is perfectly working, giving to the visitors relaxing moments. There are natural grottos for saunas as a well as swimming pools, solariums and Jacuzzis. The history of the lake, whose coasts are full of good restaurants, is strictly linked to that of the near Monte Nuovo. Inactive volcano, originated in one night only, on September 1538. On that occasion the lake was reduced ion terms of dimensions, so that it was popularly called “o’ mariciello” – the little sea. Monte Nuovo, the youngest mountain in Europe, is today a beautiful naturalistic oasis, with a view which enables people to admire several species of the local flora and an outstanding landscape from the crater’s top.
