bacoli baia e monte di procidacastello aragonese and museo archeologico dei campi flegrei type:archaeological/historic interest:
Baia Castle, probably built on the ruins of an imperial villa, was built on request of Alfonso II of Aragona to defense Napoli and Campania coast by attacks from the seaside. The Archaeological Museum of Campi Flegrei is today located in the Castle. There are a lot of the finds from that area. More than the beautiful room of plaster casts where are the Gruppo dei Tirannicidi and the Apollo of Belvedere, it is very interesting the reconstruction of Sacello of Augustali of Miseno. In the same room there is the equestrian statue of Domiziano, reused for his successor Nerva, after modifying the face. Another wonderful thing that is in the Museum is Ninfeo imperiale of Punta Epitaffio, done in the middle of first century AD by the will of Claudio. On the background there is Ulisse that makes Polifemo drunk, in the niches on the sides there are some statues that survived the bradyseism. Last section, the Mostra Nova Antiqua Phlegraea, collects last finds from Campi Flegrei area, especially Pozzuoli, Cuma, Baia and Liternum.
